With winter now here in the Greenville area, residents will be using their furnaces more and more, and it’s important to make sure that your heating system is ready for the season. At Dipple, we’re always here to provide expert heating and cooling services, no matter if it’s the middle of January or the middle of July. When your furnace or A/C goes out, you need an experienced team that can repair it quickly and correctly.
We get asked all types of HVAC-related questions throughout the year, and we thought we would share some of them in the post, along with some answers!
1. How often should I have my HVAC systems serviced?
Many people ask us this question, especially if it’s been several years since their HVAC systems were inspected and maintained. No matter what kind of system you have, it’s best to have it checked and repaired at least once a year. Regular tune-ups can prolong the system’s lifespan and keep you and your family comfortable for much longer.
2. How often should I replace my air filters?
Air filters are an integral part of any HVAC system, and the dirtier they are, the harder the system has to work to keep your home warm or cool. Many homeowners change their filters once or twice a year, when actually, it is best to change them more frequently. Depending on the season and the amount of use your furnace or air conditioner is getting, it can be beneficial to change the filter on a monthly basis. If you have an air purification or quality system in your home, you’ll want to check and perhaps change those filters once a month as well.
3. What’s the best temperature setting for my home?
This question can be a bit tough to answer, since everyone has their own preference when it comes to inside temperature. You may like it a bit cooler in the house, while your spouse likes it to be a bit warmer. The best thing you can do is invest in a thermostat that provides an accurate reading, and then set it to a temperature that’s comfortable. If you’re concerned about higher energy consumption, set the thermostat a few degrees lower so that your HVAC system doesn’t have to run as often or as long.
4. Why do my ducts make noise?
Duct noise can be common in a house, especially older properties. If you’ve heard the ductwork “pop” when the furnace or air conditioner turns on, it could be because the ducts are too small for the airflow that’s moving through your house. If you’ve updated your heating or cooling system, but your ducts were left alone, they may not be big enough to handle the new workload. At Dipple, we can examine your ductwork and repair or install new parts where necessary. We can also discuss split and zoned systems with you, which can make your home more energy efficient.
5. How do I make my home more energy efficient?
This is a question that we are asked a lot, and it’s one that we love to answer, simply because there are so many answers! If you want your home to be more energy efficient, it can start with updating your HVAC systems. You can also install new ductwork, or add a new programmable or learning thermostat that provides an accurate temperature reading. You can have your current systems checked and tuned up every year to keep them running. No matter the size of your house or the age of your heating and cooling systems, we can help you find more ways to be energy efficient. Above all, we want you to be comfortable all year round!
