There comes a time in every toilet’s life when it needs to be replaced. It might be leaking water, or it may be so old that it’s nearly impossible to find parts for it. Whatever the case may be, upgrading your toilet can help you save money on your water bill each month, not to mention that you and your family can be more comfortable. At Dipple Plumbing in Greenville, we can help you choose the best model, remove your old toilet, and install the new fixture in no time at all!

REMOVING THE TOILET

Once our expert plumber arrives, they will start by turning off the water supply on the floor next to your toilet. They will then flush the toilet so that there is no water in the tank or the bowl. After that, they’ll loosen the mounting bolts that hold the tank to the bowl and remove the tank carefully. They’re always sure to mop or sponge up any excess water in order to protect your bathroom from damage.

Once the tank has been removed, the next step is to unbolt the toilet from the floor. If the toilet is several years old, it might be necessary for our plumber to spray the floor bolts with penetrating oil so that they’re easier to loosen. If they won’t budge, it may be necessary to cut them or split them in order to remove them.

After the bolts are free from the bottom of the bowl, the plumber will break the seal underneath the toilet. There is a wax ring that seals the toilet to the floor and the end of the drain pipe, and this will likely need to be replaced before your new toilet is installed. There is also a floor flange that will need to be removed to make way for your new bathroom fixture.

INSTALLING YOUR NEW TOILET

Once the old toilet is removed and out of the way, our plumber will get to work on installing your new fixture. If you don’t have a new toilet picked out, it will be necessary to cover the drain hole in the floor to prevent sewer gas from seeping into your home. If you’re interested in a certain model of toilet, such as a self-cleaning option, we will gladly explain the benefits and features of your choices. We’re always working to stay up-to-date on the latest plumbing materials and technology so that we can provide the best service.

If you do have a toilet picked out and ready to go, our plumber will install the floor seal and the flange, and then place the the bowl and base in the proper spot. They will then make sure the tank is installed properly, and that the fill valve and flush system are working as they should. Once the water supply is connected and turned on, they will test the toilet’s functionality, checking for any leaks or a slow-filling bowl. Before they leave, the plumber will make sure you’re completely satisfied with the placement and installation of your new toilet!
