Garbage disposal units come in two basic forms—batch feed and continuous. Batch-feed models operate only when the disposal lid is engaged. Continuous models turn on with the flick of a switch and run until you turn the switch off. Although neither type of disposal is completely silent, models with larger cases are often better insulated and quieter.
